To the dedicated community of learners and educators at Open Courses Myanmar,
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, we came together to build something extraordinary. With over 80 free courses and a community of more than 8,000 students and 1,500 teachers, Open Courses Myanmar became a vital platform for accessible education in a time of unprecedented challenges. That journey provided us with profound insights into the needs of the modern educator.
Throughout our work, a consistent theme emerged from conversations with teachers across the country: the critical need for practical, accessible, and free digital tools to create their own learning materials. While access to courses is essential, empowering teachers to build and adapt content for their own students is the next logical step in our shared mission.
To answer that call, I am proud to announce the launch of a new, sister project designed to serve educators in Myanmar and around the world: Teacher Commons.
What is Teacher Commons?
Teacher Commons is a free, public library of powerful, web-based tools designed specifically for teachers. It is built on the same principles of accessibility and empowerment that defined Open Courses Myanmar. The platform allows any educator to create interactive and professional materials that can be used online or, critically, downloaded for use in classrooms with limited or no internet connectivity.
This new resource provides a wide array of utilities, including:
A full suite of interactive quiz generators to create assessments and review games.
A toolkit of classroom management tools, featuring timers, group makers, and random name pickers.
Specialized hubs for EFL teachers and Science & Maths educators.
Just as Open Courses Myanmar sought to remove barriers to learning, Teacher Commons aims to remove barriers to creation. It is a testament to the belief that every teacher deserves the best tools to help their students succeed.
We invite you to continue this journey with us. Explore the new platform, use the tools in your classrooms, and be a part of this next chapter in our commitment to education for all.
